Family Camp Is Independent from the Sanctuary Church

Shehaqua Family Camp is not related to the Sanctuary Church. When the Sanctuary Church started a few years ago, several people who used to be involved with the Shehaqua Family joined the Sanctuary Church and stopped being involved with the Shehaqua Family Camp. This has led to some confusion. The Sanctuary Church is located in Pennsylvania, not too far away from Hickory Run State Park, and this also raises questions for some people. Finally, the Sanctuary Church started to organize their own summer camps (modeled after our Family Camps) at Hickory Run State Park, both at Camp Daddy Allen and at Camp Shehaqua. So it is understandable that some people are confused about the relationship between Shehaqua Family Camp and the Sanctuary Church.

In 2015, we published an official statement about our relationship with Sanctuary Church in our newsletter and on our website. What we wrote then is still true. You can send this statement (see below) to anyone who has questions about whether we are influenced by the Sanctuary Church.

Shehaqua Family Camp Independent from Sanctuary Church

A number of people have approached us recently and asked if there is any connection between the Shehaqua Family and the Sanctuary Church. The answer is no, Shehaqua Family Camp is not associated with the Sanctuary Church in any way. Members of the Sanctuary Church are welcome to participate in Shehaqua Family Camp programs, just like anyone else, and the same rules that apply to everyone also apply to them: We do not allow public promotion or printed advertising of another organization or organization's events (Unification-Church-related or not) at Shehaqua Family programs.

Shehaqua Family is an independent, grassroots organization inspired by the life and ministry of Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon. As a group of Unificationist families, we are proud to welcome people of all faiths and are not affiliated with any particular group or denomination. We are financially self-sufficient, run by unpaid volunteers, and we elect our own leaders and officials from among our volunteers.
